Project Name: Ijamido Children Care Centre

Description of project:
The project is a Child Care Centre called Ijamido Children Home (i.e. Children and Motherless Home) located in the heart of Sango Otta town in Ogun State. About 300 Children found in the Home are neglected, abandoned, or were thrown away on the streets and highways for the reason of parents’ unwillingness to maintain or bring them up. This could be as a direct result of early or unwanted pregnancy. They have no parental care and exposure to normal education. The Matron & staff of the Home pick-up these children and raised them up. All the children both male and female bear the same surname called Willoughby.

Special qualifications required:

• Volunteers to be sympathetic to the babies, cradles, toddlers or kindergarten children.
• To have passions, be sociable, and ready to inculcate good values and morals into the main streams of the programme but volunteer should not be emotional.
• Ability to develop friendly and family attitude is much tolerated.
• Be motivated for the voluntary work
• Responsible to keep rules and exhibit cooperation throughout the workcamps
• Best efforts to understand and respect cultures both of the hosts and other volunteers
• Open minded to make friends and to speak English (within the groups) as official language
• To adapt and enjoy simple conditions of living such as food and accommodation

Aims and expected results of the voluntary work:

The objective of this project is to give priority attention to safe lives of these abandoned and innocent babies / children who have destiny and greater fulfillment in future. The children are product of early pregnancy that could not prevail on the irate decision of their parents to terminate their destiny. These children are not only picked on the streets, waste disposal or ready to be destroyed but for the sake of this Home to regain and secure their rights back to life becomes very vital to the society.

The expected results is that volunteer would have created an impact into the society. Train and mentor some children of the home with good conduct and become role model in the society. The volunteer will also have learnt social and intercultural exchange in the environment. Deposit acceptable values and norms as experienced in the western world.
Description of the tasks of the volunteer:

Assist the attendants in cleaning, washing and providing a comfortable environment for the helpless children. Volunteers will give assistance in moving them around, distribution of food and tiding, organizing entertainment, cultural events and various social occasions (games, courses of foreign languages, etc.) Bring some info of personal health material like how to brush teeth, washing hands, cutting nails, etc. Volunteers can also arrange cultural exchange, gardening, sport activities, making wall magazine, etc.

Project Name: Compensatory Centres

Description of project:
Volunteer will be assigned into a Special School where disadvantaged, mentally and physically impaired children are trained, reformed and rehabilitated. This is a welfare project that gives needed attention to the suffering of children in the area of education especially the mentally retarded and vulnerable children in the society. This physically challenged children are found within our society yet they are marginalised in the sharing of social facilities.

Two different Locations in Lagos State

Special qualifications required:
• To have passions, be sociable and ready to inculcate good values and morals into the main streams of the programme but volunteer should not be emotional.
• Ability to develop friendly and family attitude is much tolerated.
• Be motivated for the voluntary work
• Responsible to keep rules and exhibit cooperation throughout the workcamps
• Best efforts to understand and respect cultures both of the hosts and other volunteers
• Open minded to make friends and to speak English (within the groups) as official language
• To adapt and enjoy simple conditions of living such as food and accommodation

Special qualifications recommended:
Prepare your big smiles, toys, candies, and many ideas of games and plays. Story books are also welcome. The children are very receptive, attentive and enthusiastic to learn new values.

Aims and expected results of the voluntary work:

The aim of the project is to help the handicapped child to integrate them into the society. To improve the child condition through instructional aids and informal training thus giving hope for their future. It is also desired to reform and create lovely and learning environment for the children in spite of their pathetic situation. The hope is that their neglected conditions is improved upon and to prevent the violation of Child rights. The volunteers will appreciate everyday life, habits and culture of these children through practical and social help being provided within the period. Cultural diversity is also exchanged.


Description of the tasks of the volunteer:
Volunteer will work with some experienced Staff in the School. Volunteers will give assistance in moving them around, distribution of food and tiding, organizing entertainment, cultural events and various social occasions (games, courses of foreign languages, etc.) Bring some info on personal health. material on how to brush teeth, washing hands, cutting nails, etc. Volunteers can also arrange cultural exchange, gardening, sport activities, making wall magazine, etc. Also, Language lessons, club activities like singing, music, drawing, etc, personal health teaching, as well as cultural and games exchange activities will be considered.

Project Name: Eruwa Agro-Farm Project

Description of project: Agro Farming Project
The projects is tagged “operation food basket” which is organized in conjunction with a branch of an international NGO-YMCA in Nigeria. It is food for sustainable development in line with poverty alleviation programme of MDG goals. The farmland is a large sparse one with varieties of crops. It has different layers of cropping built along ridges and cultivated bumps for growing varieties of agric. seeds.

Eruwa Town in Ibarapa Local Government Area
Western Region in Oyo State

Special qualifications required:
• An Agric. Farm manager will supervise the project and volunteers will work as a team in different areas of the farm (each group under a team leader).
• Ability to develop friendly and team spirit is much tolerated.
• Be motivated for the voluntary work
• Responsible to keep rules and exhibit cooperation throughout the workcamps
• Best efforts to understand and respect cultures both of the hosts and other volunteers
• Open minded to make friends and to speak English (within the groups) as official language
• To adapt and enjoy simple conditions of living such as food and accommodation

Special qualifications recommended:
Volunteers need not be skilled in agricultural science but should be ready to act on instructions and guidelines. Prepare your big smiles, toys, candies, and many ideas of games and plays. Story books are also welcome.

Aims and expected results of the voluntary work:
Major idea of this project is to create opportunity for youths to acquire some skills on small scale farming. Cultural diversity is also exchanged. At the end, food would have been made available to the common man and possibly for market supply.

Description of the tasks of the volunteer:
Much of bush clearing, planting, watering, ploughing and harvesting will be done. New cultivation of ridges and crop layers will be carried out

(1) Eligibility:
The International Summer is open to both Nigeria and Foreign volunteers who are above eighteen (18) years and interested in the rural community development programme. Participants are expected from Africa, Asia, Europe and North/South America countries.




(2) Health:
Volunteers should be physically fit to do manual work for about 30 hours in a week and must be able to live and work under any simple and sometimes rough conditions.

(3) Camp Period:
From January 2009 to December 2009

(4) Camp Fees:
$250 (US) Dollar, 200€ euro or (£150.00) British Pound for the camp. Please note that this amount mentioned here is also charged per month for Medium Term and Long Term Volunteers.
There is 50€ euro sending and administration fee per volunteer.


(5) Responsibility:
The Voluntary Workcamps Association of Nigeria will be fully responsible for your Feeding, accommodation and other group expenses throughout the camp.

(6) Requirements:

(i) Volunteers should complete and return Application for Participation indicating Date, Time of Arrival and accompany it with applicant’s recent photograph.

(ii) Foreign volunteers should arrive Nigeria at least three (3) Days before the commencement of the camp for a Group Orientation preceding the camp.

(iii) They should also endeavour to obtain vaccination against Small Pox and Cholera.

(iv) Volunteers will be expected to submit report of activities and observation made at the end of the camps.

(v) Arrangements would be made to collect at the international airport any volunteer/s who inform us of his/her arrival before the camp. The following details will equally be needed: Arrival Date, Time, Airline Name and Flight Number.

(7) Excursions:
Visits and tours will be made to historical places of interests and tourist attraction during the camps.

(8) Materials For Personal Use:
Participants should come with their Games, Musical instruments, Torch Lights, Camping materials, Toiletries, Social / Casual dresses, Sandals and Shoe for their personal use.
