Youth Exchange "Global Warming" in Aydın 23-30 Au
INTRODUCTION
Description of the activities: We are a group consisted of the university students in the Aegean Region. (Dokuz Eylul University, Ege University, Adnan Menderes University) Together with the ones among us who have experience in domestic and international projects, we wanted to prepare a project about one of the biggest problems of our world recently; global warming, gases causing greenhouse effect and its consequences. For this aim, we held our first meeting in Izmir on 11.10.2006. Every week we continue our activities together with the members of our group. With the help of this project we would like to define global warming, put present problems forth, find the beginning of the problem, to suggest solutions and bring the young participants together.
Our aim was to prepare a common ground of ideas together with concerned participants from various universities and departments who are sensitive about the environment and with whom we work collaboratively in groups.
• We determined the main idea of this environmental project, analysed the topic and aimed to deal closely with the problem of global warming.
• With regard to this, firstly we consulted some colleagues who have worked in this branch before and qualified proffessors about the subject to make use of their ideas.
• We exchanged ideas with representatives of some non-govermental organizations who are concerned about such universal problems.
• . Ideas were also exchanged with an independent, non-profit organization, Greenpeace and Community of Global Warming in Izmir about similar projects which have been carried out before.
OUR GOALS
With this project we aim at ;
• Revealing the problem explicitly,
• Putting forward concrete suggestions of solutions,
• making the participants and the public conscious about the topic,
• getting the attention of the press and developing the mutual understanding between young people coming from various cultures
Effects at the local level: With the help of this project, the responsibilities of both Aydin and the nearby cities about global warming are to be negotiated and any suggestions for solutions are to be listened to. Furthermore, public will be made conscious. By means of the press it is aimed to reach broader masses during the project.
Multicultural dimension: As the language of communication among the participants is going be English, local seminars and activities are going to be in Turkish and we are going to have interpreters during each activity, communication will definitely not be a problem. What’s more, meetings with group leaders will be held regularly and the level of adaptation and agreement will be kept at the highest.
CONSEQUENCES EXPECTED FROM THE PROJECT
To reach a common ground both within the national dimensions and international dimensions, to have a community which is more conscious, to get the attention of written and visual press, common suggestions for solutions from participants of various countries of Europe and nearby cities.
Pursuit and evaluation: We will try to reach a better perpetuation of the organisation by holding assemblies for general instructions about the project within the duration of the change and meetings for general evaluation with the group leaders. At the end of the project, declarations about the results are going to be required from the group leaders, compiled and published in our web site so that information for the future projects can be attainable.
